Township Assessors

The Chief County Assessment Officer is mandated to be responsible for equalizing assessments amongst all townships in the County, directing and instructing Township Assessors in their methodology of assessing, as well as their uniformity, processing various taxpayer exemptions, valuing certain classes of property & special assessments and acting as the Clerk for the Board of Review.

Township assessors are responsible for setting the value on individual properties in their townships. Review and equalization of those values is then done by the Chief County Assessment Officer. Assessments can be adjusted by applying township factors so that the State of Illinois’ mandated level of 33 1/3 per cent of fair market value is met.
