a. Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Young reported one incident was reported to the office.
On June 20, 2022 a camper reported his camper had been unplugged and approximately two hundred dollars in food, mainly meat, was lost. At this time there is not a way to determine how the camper became unplugged and this is a very unfortunate incident.
The weather played a major role the last few weeks at the campground. The 4th of July was impacted by the weather, with two cancellations for the weekend due to the weather. The long stretches of high heat and humidity have impacted patronage at the Campground. The storms that passed over the area recently, the campground received nearly 3.25” of rain. The heavy rain at the campground caused roads to washout and repairs are underway. Long term drainage repairs will begin soon to: Little Sister Loop and Hawk Lane by the LSL boat ramp are top priorities.
A month’s long bidding cycle for open sites has ended, there was zero action. This indicates the campground folks are happy on their current sites. This made a larger number of sites available. The campground started the weekend of the July 9 &10 with 8 electric and 6 non-electric, at the end of the weekends’ business the campground had 5 electric and 4 non-electric sites open. The campgrounds waiting list is currently eleven.
The pending projects since last season; the process of obtaining the easements to run the fiber across MWRD (Metropolitan Water Reclamation District) property is still underway, no start date has been determined.
Wildlife research is being conducted on the campgrounds for the proposed easement. IDNR had several teams on-site to evaluate the Canadian goose population. At this time no additional information has been reported on the wildlife research.
Dr. Tuten and her team have access to the campground in an effort to track the progress of ticks initially only found in Texas. The Lone Star tick has been found at the campgrounds.
Young reported water testing is being done and the re__cpLocation of 3 ½ boat docks is underway.
