6. Public Remarks
Heather Henderson brought several concerns forward. She asked for clarity and expressed that several other campers share these concerns. Communication has been a concern for four seasons and appears to be worsening. Campers are not being notified when problems occur (water breaks, electric billing confusion). She expressed that part delays are understandable, but campers need to be informed. She requested weekly or monthly updates about issues, contract changes, and upcoming communications. She expressed that the second concern is safety and security. Significant theft reported at many lots ranging from $1,000 to less $6,000 from locked sheds and campsites. People are going around the campground gate through an empty lot on the side. The Sheriff’s Department has been called to campground at least five times in the last month. She also expressed concerns about violent incidents. She made a possible request for concrete barriers at unauthorized entry points. She expressed that the campers need a clear path to communicate on Cindy’s days off. There are also concerns about new campers not receiving their license agreements, established rules and expectations not being provided, and reports of campers staying year-round. She requests clear communication about any exceptions. She suggested that written clarification would be beneficial for fees and rule changes. The campers would like to help resolve the problems at the campground.
Committee responses addressed these issues:
Member Williams expressed that Facebook is spreading gossip and rumors at the campground. For security issues, campers should call the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department. Member Williams expressed Cindy should not respond to domestic situations – she is not a police officer. The recent incident could not result in immediate removal due to state law limitations. After the Sheriff’s Department responds three times, an individual can be told to leave for 24 hours. Paperwork was completed through the state’s attorney – the individual has 24 hours once served to remove their camper or will be charged with trespassing. Member Williams asked Sheriff Webb to have deputies make one or two passes through the campground during night shifts. The campground plans to install a fence for security when funding is available. Superintendent Cindy researched pricing of getting speed bumps to install and it would be approximately $6,000 to $7,000, additionally she researched camera systems and they would cost $5,000 annually and include 2-3 cameras per section.
Sue Tisdale expressed concerns about the lease spots that were rented out for monthly camping. Member Williams expressed that monthly camping will not continue. Next year requirements will be changed and new campers will have to provide a photo of their camper before entry, criminal background check, and access can be denied. Electric disconnection policy will be changed to have a notice and penalty for past due bills, disconnection after 30 days like other utilities. New campers next year will pay deposits ($100 for electricity discussed). Existing campers will not be required to pay deposits. Road repair was brought up as a concern along with general maintenance. Member Williams expressed that in the future a UTV will be purchased to help perform general maintenance. Member Williams express that there was an error with meter readings and the campers that were charged the error amount are being corrected. Creating a committee of campers was discussed to talk about problems, concerns, and solutions.
