a. Discussion/Action: 200th Anniversary Planning
Member Kessel discussed the August 19, 2023 date is conflicting with the memorial event planned for Deputy Troy Chisum.
The committee decided due to the conflicting event, the 200th Anniversary event would be September 3, 2023 from 12:00n to 9:00pm. The Bicentennial celebration event will be held at the Fulton County Fair Grounds in Lewistown, IL.
Member Kessel presented a draft of the 200th Anniversary – Bicentennial celebration flyer. The committee agreed the flyer would be used for the promotion of the 200th Bicentennial celebration event. The flyer content will be reviewed before distributing.
Member Kessel presented a draft letter to be sent to businesses and organizations asking for their support for the one-day Bicentennial celebration; in the form of donations, labor or financial support.
Member Kessel discussed Member Southwood volunteered to take the lead for the volunteers needed for the Bicentennial celebration event.
The financial sponsorship support will offer several levels of sponsorship and benefits for the days events. Some of the ideas for benefits are free vendor space, included sponsor’s name on the marketing materials and sponsor’s logo included on the back of T-shirts.
Member Kessel presented ideas for the day’s events to include a petting zoo, dunk tank, balloon artist, face painting and local bands to play throughout the day. A photography contest was suggested and to display the winning photos in the courthouse.
A small give away such as magnets or pins would allow everyone to receive a memento from the 200th Bicentennial celebration event.
Member Kessel suggested having an MC for the day’s event to keep the program moving along, and the committee agreed.
The registration fees for vendors and business would be $50.00 and non-profit fee of $25.00 to help assure the vendors show up for the event and after the event. The registration fees would be returned to vendors.
For business or people donating items or funds, their names would be listed in the marketing materials.
Member Kessel stated Carla at the Canton Chamber provided forms and contacts to assist with the event.
Member Widger provided information on the evening band selections and with the date change, the bands’ availability needs to be confirmed.
Member Sloan will take the lead for the kids’ games and events for the days.
Chairman Spangler suggested a fireworks show after the band is finished for the evening.
