Persons wishing to perform work or services in a Zoning District where some activities may be restricted may file a petition with the Board of Appeals. All Zoning Districts have certain activities which may be performed under a qualifying conditional use. Other activities may be performed under Special Home Occupation Permits. Buildings which may be too close to property lines can still be constructed via Board approval of a setback variance. Other duties of the Appeal Board include requests for changes in zoning classifications (map amendments) and appeals of a determination made by the Zoning Enforcement Officer.
The Zoning Board of Appeals consists of seven members, appointed by the County Board. Their terms are for five years. They are county residents, all from different townships.
